Background

The Institutional Strengthening of the Biodiversity Sector in the ASEAN (ISB II) Project is jointly implemented by the ASEAN Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) and the Federal Government of Germany, through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The ISB II Project aims to optimise the experiences and lessons learned on biodiversity conservation and protected area management gained from the project’s first phase or ISB I. The Project is being implemente from 2019 to 2024.

Objective

The ISB II Project aims to optimise the experiences and lessons learned on biodiversity conservation and protected area management gained from the project’s first phase or ISB I. The objective of ISB II is for the ACB to successfully implement the elements of its revised Strategic Plan to support biodiversity conservation and mainstreaming.

Components

The ISB II seeks to deliver the following four outputs:
Implementation of the priority elements of the new ACB Strategic Plan
Development and utilisation of the ASEAN Heritage Parks (AHP) Operations Manual to include a regional monitoring and evaluation system for the AHP Programme
Formulation of the conditions for an instructed contribution of the Region to the negotiations for a new international biodiversity agreement
Biodiversity is mainstreamed into relevant development sectors
